| With the retirement of
Robert in 1963, the dairy operation ceased. However, he continued to
raise grains and hay for a number of years. Since the early 1970's,
his son Bob has increased the cash crop business to include oats, barley,
buckwheat, and hay. We grew high-moisture corn for a number of years.
However, our sandy soils with low fertility and our high elevation (1424
feet) with a relatively cool climate is more suited to small grains.
We currently grow approximately 40 acres of oats, 40 acres of
barley, 50 acres of soybeans, 10 acres of buckwheat, and about 40 acres of
hay. Some of our barley straw is sold to use as a control for grasses
in ponds. |
