The Burt
Homestead Farm has been in continuous operation by our family for over 200
years. The farm is located on “The Hurricane” in the northwestern
part of the Town of Norway in Herkimer County. We are about 4 miles north
of Cold Brook, 1/2 mile off State Route 8 and approximately 20 miles
from Utica.
This section of
Norway derives its name from a "micro-burst" or "hurricane" in the
mid-1750's. By the 1790's, the early settlers found a large area where
trees had been blown down or uprooted. This made settlement easier
since part of their work in clearing the land was already done. |
